I am excited to share my demo reel showcasing the concept art I created while working at Base FX for the highly anticipated animation "造物者之歌" (Song of the Creator). This project was an incredible journey, and I am proud to see our collective efforts come to fruition with its upcoming release on IQIYI.
Design Thinking & Visual Direction
Design Intent
This environment explores a monumental architectural structure designed to convey scale, permanence, and cultural identity within a cinematic world.
The goal was to create a space that feels both functional and symbolic, supporting narrative storytelling through spatial composition, material language, and lighting.
World & Functional Context
The structure is imagined as a central hub within a larger world system, serving as a gathering or transitional space.
Circulation paths, scale relationships, and spatial hierarchy were considered to guide how a viewer or player might move through and experience the environment.
Architectural forms were designed to balance visual clarity with complexity, ensuring readability while maintaining a strong sense of atmosphere and immersion.
Exploration & Iteration
Early exploration focused on testing different massing strategies, silhouette clarity, and spatial rhythm.
Multiple approaches were considered, including:
More compact vs. open structural layouts
Variation in vertical emphasis to adjust perceived scale
Different lighting directions to define mood and focal points
These iterations helped refine both the visual impact and functional readability of the space.
Final Direction & Decision
The final design emphasizes strong vertical structures and controlled lighting to establish a clear focal hierarchy.
This direction was selected to:
Enhance spatial readability
Reinforce narrative tone and atmosphere
Support cinematic framing and potential interactive navigation
The result balances visual storytelling with functional design, allowing the environment to serve both as a narrative setting and an explorable space.
